01/02/2024 finally cold enough for frostweed!!

Three stalks of frostweed with white icy coatings near the base — We had a low of 26 F and the oak tree has shed its protective leaves. The frostweed frosted!!

Swirling thin sheets of ice around the stalk

This stalk has almost fringed sheets of ice instead of smooth swirls

Back to close up of thin ice swirl layers. There are horizontal lines in the thin ice swirls. A few sheets don’t end in a swirl but stand alone and flat out from the stalk.
