The cast iron forest is another name for the Cross Timbers ecoregion. There is a whole book on it which I should read is very nice and covers ecology, natural history, geology, and cultural history. It’s available at both the University of Oklahoma and Pioneer System Norman Central libraries. It made a nice connection from the native-or-functional gardening philosophy I have to the cooking implements favored by the Chef of Our Household.
