08/14/2022 fermenting slimy seeds

I did some reading and it seems like we should actually be fermenting the canteloupe seeds, so I threw out the others (which were crunchy with dried goo/slime). Here’s the seeds from today’s snack.
White currant tomato seeds looked pretty fermenty in the cupboard today so I rinsed them in the strainer and plopped them onto a paper towel. We set the paper towel by an air vent. This has worked for these seeds in the past, as this year’s plant is from harvested seeds.

Paula made Thai green curry for dinner. It contains last year’s garden white currant tomatoes (from frozen, so that works well), garden onions, and garden walking onions.
The Texas buckeye is very angry. I put a hose out to soak there. Jeanne has let me know the wild ones do this too, so maybe it will recover.

We were about to go back inside, but she got up and scooted closer. He turned to glare while she got a treat for laying down.

05/16/2022 south of the river

An update from the Texas home garden this past week!

Pink brandywine tomato flowering in Mom and Dad’s container planter garden last week.
White currant tomato flower buds.
The red rubin basil has appreciated an increased watering regime.
First marigold bloom! The ones up here in Norman in my garden are just getting their first and second sets of true leaves.
Last Wednesday, note the size of mustard greens.
They sure grew over just a few days!
In fact, they grew enough that Mom harvested some.
Mom sauteed them in butter, oil, and white vinegar with salt, pepper, and a lemon juice top off at the end. Sources say it was good.

04/23 a bit of planting

On the left, you can see the now three containers of white currant tomato.
Around the culinary sage, I split up the thyme into three chunks and planted it around the sage’s edge. To the right, you can see two containers with baby Mexican plums that have not found immediate homes. Now they’re potted and can keep. Behind those is lemon balm I divided in two as a coworker wants some.

Tomatoes for Mom

All three kinds up! Once a tray is all up, I move it immediately to the stronger natural light of the plant window from its original place in the dimmer UV light on the heating pad. After a few days I’ll probably start taking them to the porch too for even stronger light.

The illusion of plenty

Green tomatoes have been gradually ripening indoors.
Had kale and tomato salad and a chard salad last night. The Chef is not a kale fan. I’m not sure I was either by itself, needed either more pre treatment or mixing in other greens.
