Posted on November 6, 2021November 6, 2021Very exciting very large skipper I believe this is a Brazilian Skipper. It may be a new county record! It was SO BIG, just a little smaller than a sphinx moth. Apparently they are regular in central Texas and elsewhere south, but wander north in the fall.
Posted on November 4, 2021November 4, 2021If you can’t tell, I took today off First saffron crocus of the fall! Hmm who could be in an attempted flower bed spot? Nothing is growing there so I guess I will let it pass. Looks cozy. I love the white avens foliage and flowers, but the seeds have been aggravating me by sticking to my pants. I decided to move a bunch of concrete pavers that got buried by leaves elsewhere to make the path clearer here to compost. Ran out of energy and obvious pavers to move.

Posted on October 27, 2021October 27, 2021Tuesday evening A milkweed beetle!! Very exciting! It’s sitting on a tepary bean though, silly friend. Salvia greggii are doing amazing right now. “landlocked gumbo” says the Chef. Okra, mini bell pepper, tam jalapeño pepper, and moss curled parsley all from garden.
Posted on October 23, 2021October 23, 2021Tropical sage This plant is nearer to the garage. I think it came from a wildflower seed mix instead of the other seeds I bought. It seems pretty happy over here, doesn’t dry out as much as the other places I have seeded it.
Posted on October 20, 2021October 20, 2021Home again, volunteer cucurbit This native cucurbit is so cute with the sedums! It volunteers everywhere and I love it.
Posted on October 19, 2021October 19, 2021Just a few pods Blue-speckled tepary beans!! So excited. I think I need to plant them in a sunnier spot next year.
