Paula has been experimenting with what beans can be refried using the Rancho Gordo refried bean recipe. The refried cowpeas were great! These were the Corrientes cowpeas from last summer. Tacos had ground venison for the meat; the non-tomato veggies were mostly from the farmshare.

Those look really good! I’m surprised they cook up such a dark brown.
Sorry, don’t really have a recipe. I cook the beans to taste with onions then salt and pepper to taste. Then if I want “refried beans” I just mash them. 🤷🏻♀️ And like Judy maybe add some salsa on top.

This variety has a dark red outer coat so I imagine that’s why
Yummy! I have done other beans as well with good results. However I dont use lard. 🤷🏻♀️
