07/17/2022 straw bale sampling and other afternoon torture
We appear to have some potatoes in the straw bales. The Granny Smith apple is having a hard time. The leaves are turning brittle and possibly sunscalded? We are on mandatory water conservation until the city pump is fixed Monday hopefully so the most I can do is hand water it. However, this apple tree is the most westward facing so maybe it’s just having problems.Native Texas dandelion in backyard earlier.

Yup. At least I still have several other varieties and the two pears. And it still could recover next year maybe??
I think Judy is on to something – apples are challenged this far south. But keep trying! And you have potatoes!
Yeah I thought granny Smith was a heat tolerant one but the real southern variety ones like Williams pride doing better so far!
What Judy and Suzanne said 😉 Maybe the apple tree could benefit with some afternoon shade? Yum potatoes!
Maybe I need a different tougher tree in front of it for that
