Duck pond wildflowers

Blue eyed grass is a native wildflower that I was happy to see sprouting near the duck pond on my walk home today!
A wild fowl!

05/01/2022 winecup sprouts

The winecup sprouts are now in assorted soils. A few in a big pot, lots in sprouting pots. The rightmost pot is one of the purple and pink perennial pots.
Lots of winecup seeds and sprouts to hopefully become ground cover where the soaker hose is!
While I had the potting soil out, I also repotted the Missouri fluttermill primrose seedlings. There are three total – one kept wilting, so I figured they needed more soil to have a stable moisture level.

Yarrow from home about to bloom.
Linum rigidum (yellow flax) from home is blooming! It’s an annual, but I’m hoping it will go to seed.
The mailbox irises are varied this year!

This englemann daisy has lost a few petals!
The two leaf senna is growing a second pair of leaves!!
Two baby flax are just starting their adult leaves.
The false gaura is doing fine but there was also this very nice fly on its label.
Gulf coast penstemon from the NPSOT plant sale is blooming!

Water, water everywhere

The Chef helped me connect and lay out the second soaker hose where I will attempt to plant some winecup seeds soon.
The winecup seeds in question, a few days ago, in stratification in the fridge. They’re ready to get started.
Imagine my surprise to look up from my garden spreadsheet and find a Gray Catbird on the closer birdbath! I saw one last year in the yard in spring migration too.

The lone rain barrel out in the yard is an overflow for another one, and I have placed it next to a new plant (the beautyberry) so I can hopefully water it someday.

Bare roots arrived yesterday

This is Penstemon grandiflorus which allegedly likes sand so hopefully the very dry loose dirt rock garden will keep it happy.
Ta da!
I checked my other mystery legumes and these have three leaves instead of two. So I don’t know who they are.
A second one. There are also 2-3 like this in the backyard prairie. I’ll have to see if I have any candidates on the spreadsheet. Edit: no legumes there, so it must be a volunteer. Maybe the tiny wild bean vine of some sort I saw in backyard prairie last year?
When I finished planting the obedient plant roots in the backyard (and there were two in my package!!!) along with the plant sale native flowers, I watered everything. It was getting dark, so instead of plants here is cat friend Shackleton on his leash investigating the Missouri fluttermill primrose bud smells.
He loves his leash adventures.

OU Botanical Society annual plant sale

My coworker and I got a good haul. I was very excited they had native plants this year!! I got a Cleome since my seedlings all died and a rattlebox because it sounded cool. I also got three tomatoes (sweet william, green vernissage, and beefsteak), since all mine died except for Mom’s and a few white currant. And one basil, since there’s never enough basil.
Biked home with precious cargo in fearsome wind.

TWO LEAF SENNA BABY

Yesssss it’s not a yaupon holly!!! They have had pretty similar cotelydons. This is very two leaved!!! I need to check the other candidates in the rainbow garden and the backyard prairie.
