Posted on January 14, 2024January 14, 202401/14/2024 not very efficient plant window Single pane glass isn’t great in this extreme weather. Fortunately most of the plants are above the thin metal bottom. in past years this has damaged tomato seedlings when we did them in the window. Frost is pretty though. Mom fixed the stained glass cardinal for me recently! Thanks Mom!
Posted on December 18, 2021December 19, 2021Low 19 F forecast tonight Leaves to insulate the baby bok choy Leaves to insulate the baby lettuce The screen (made to keep rabbits out) holds the leaves in, in case there is wind. Apparently one should blanch small round fruit before attempting to make raisins. Regular ground cherries. A chironomid fly adult chilling near garage door. Some sort of cutworm, on collard greens, the previous night. I threw it out in yard where hopefully the mockingbird will find it. I touched another dog! The Chef successfully made honey mead! We tried it. Was good. He says it needs to age now. Crabapple jelly central. Hanging out in his haunted mansion.
Posted on October 16, 2021October 16, 2021Wet bumblebee and other things Last night, brought in dwarf tomatoes and purple and chocolate peppers since temps forecast (and did reach) into 40s. On Thursday night, before another night rain, Paula and I planted more wildflower seeds. Mom sent these Yellow Puff seeds. We scarified them by scraping their hard coats on the concrete patio. On Thursday morning, I saw this very dew-drenched bumblebee. I was hoping it might be a two spotted bumblebee but I think the yellow on its abdomen was just clumping together with the dew??
