A friend gave us some of her baby partridge peas in the spring and they are growing up and blooming! This species is an annual so hopefully they will come back.

Yellow partridge pea flowers on the foot-tall stalks. Their deep green leaves are open in the daytime like in this picture but I’ve noticed they completely fold up at night. We have these plants in front of the backyard fence trellis so there are some creeping cucumber (Melothria pendula) vines in the background.

  1. Such a lovely plant! Leaves will also fold if overcast and/or rainy. We could use some rain at our house.

  2. You should have a colony get started unless wild creatures discover the bounty and eat all the seeds that drop.
