Signs of life

Cat greets morning sun, waiting for his Doggie to return inside.
Lemon balm herb reemerging.

In the cactus planter, this Escobaria missouriensis and its smaller sibling are doing well.
I think this is a winecup rosette. Hurrah! Don’t know why it didn’t bloom last year, but I’m glad one survived from two falls ago.
Whitlow-wort transplant is going to seed. May it come back next year!

Seeeeeedlings

A single Phacelia has come up after all the others died.
Three (one visible here) native blue flax babies have come up from direct seeding in the rainbow garden!!!!

No vampires

Paula noticed more spider mites on the indoor peppers so we did garlic spray on them. I’ve also recently added a sprinkle more fertilizer to the pots since the leaves are yellowing. Hopefully this helps.
Then we decided to garlic spray the remaining tomato plant. Its fruit still seems to be growing but all the leaves on top are just drying up, even with more consistent watering. However, it’s growing new stems from the base. Not sure what the deal is.
In the backyard, Viola bicolor have flower buds.
A ground bee or wasp has a nice burrow near the potential greeneyes seedlings.

Survival both short term and long term

The Mexican plum dug from Mom and Dad’s yard last summer is budding! (The metal across it is the flag I have to not lose it.)
The prairie parsley also from home is still alive.
Ditto for the whitlow-wort. It’s an annual, but I hope it will reseed.
The smaller whitlow-wort is growing through its mud.
This is something just sprouting. I have a label nearby that says greeneyes. Mom does this have the right leaves?? I also do have a lot of ironweed in this area.

Earwigs indoors 😤

We mixed up neem oil concentrate with water according to the directions (~0.4 g oil per 2 oz water ie the size of our little glass spritzer bottles), and spritzed all the baby plants. We’ve seen three earwigs inside near the plants since repotting last night and several tomatillos, peppers, and chamomile look a bit worse for the wear.

Tomatoes for Mom

All three kinds up! Once a tray is all up, I move it immediately to the stronger natural light of the plant window from its original place in the dimmer UV light on the heating pad. After a few days I’ll probably start taking them to the porch too for even stronger light.

Indoor greens

Chijimisai greens were a free seed packet in an order, and despite being a Brassica the label said not frost hardy. So I’m trying to grow them in a decorative planter with some other friends.
